Maldives Hajj Corporation has decided to develop a resort.
Speaking to Vnews, Hajj Corporation’s Managing Director
Yameen Idrees said that the company is greatly concerned with making
investments that are in accordance with Islamic law using the money
given to them, and increasing the company income to provide cheap
services while maintaining their service standards.
Yameen said that the President has given his guarantee of providing an island for the company to develop the resort. He added that an island had still not been chosen, and that they are currently focusing on the necessary work to be done on the policy level regarding the project.
Yameen said that they will develop a resort that conforms to Islamic values, and that they cannot invest in businesses that only conforms to normal regulations, since Hajj Corporation is a company that gives opportunity for people to fulfill their religious rituals.
“If we are given the opportunity to develop a resort, we are planning to progress in the Tourism Industry. I don’t think Maldives has an Islamic tourism. We cannot be involved in a conventional system while we work for a noble cause; we have to make investments in projects that are accepted in Islam.” said Yameen.
Although the government has guaranteed an island for the company, Yameen informs that no work has been done to make any progress in the project.
Hajj Corporation is also looking for foreign investment opportunities, claiming that investment opportunities in Maldives do not conform to Islamic law.
The company is also working on building a hotel in Mecca and establishing a company office in Saudi Arabia, in order to make it easier for the company-sponsored pilgrims. The company will also be opening a store in Malé, and has signed an agreement with Allied Insurance's Islamic Wing - Ayadi Takaful, in order to give better health services to the pilgrims.
